Bohemian Rhapsody Swan!
Mon, Sep 10th, 2012
The Swans of Wells are 60 huge, beautifully painted swans tat have graced the streets of the historic town of Wells, in Somerset, for the past few weeks. They are being auctioned soon, for charity, and one of them is Bohemian Rhapsody. There will be a preview 15/16th September at Bishops Palace, Wells, Somerset, and the auction is on 29th September.
I had an email form the artist responsible for Bohemian Rhapsody, Kate Davies, to explain her stunning work:
"I was one of the artists commissioned to paint a swan for Queen street traders in Wells. The traders asked me to paint a swan called Bohemian Rhapsody. Queen Anne of Bohemia visited Wells hence the naming of the street but the traders also want to include the link to Queen and the song Bohemian Rhapsody. The inside of the wings has the musical score of the song handwritten and includes Queen Anne flower, King Edward crown, purple and ermine, a gold brocade fabric taken from a painting of Queen Anne and modern musical instruments along the wings. There is a website to visit for further info and also a facebook site"
See the photo below. You can see and read more about the swans and the auction here: http://www.swansofwells.com/
